Bette Saffran

Bette Saffran may have been born in the mountains of North Carolina, but she’ll tell you she’s a Floridian at heart. The youngest of four sisters, she spent her childhood fishing with her father at sunrise—braving bait-scented sandwiches, alligators, and the lack of bathrooms aboard their boat.

Now living a laid-back life in St. Augustine, Bette shares a three-generational home with her husband, daughter, and granddaughter, who keeps her laughing and painting—sometimes literally, as Liz jokes that standing still too long might turn you into her next canvas.

A lover of storytelling, Bette draws inspiration from her own life and family, weaving humor and adventure into her characters. She once tried life as a temporary expat in Belize, lured by promises of easy living—until multiple "jackings" taught her the value of keeping a spare $50 tucked away.

Active in her church and community, Liz spends her days writing, painting, and embracing life’s absurdities—always with laughter, good friends, and a creative spark.
