Nick Patras

Nick P. Patras, Ph.D., is the author of Stories from the Other Side of Goodbye: Finding Life’s Lessons in Loss.

Nick brings a unique career history to his writing, beginning at age 17 with more than a decade of funeral service where he became a licensed funeral director serving thousands of families dealing with grief. After leaving the professional funeral service he spent twenty-plus years in sales and sales management for two national insurance companies. He recruited and trained other sales professionals and managed a diverse client base. Dr. Patras serves clients in private practice mental health counseling and professional coaching services devoted to assisting clients develop and refine their life purpose to create alignment in their personal and professional lives.

He is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor who received a BS Degree in Organizational Communication from St. Edward’s University in Austin, a master’s degree in Community Counseling, and a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from East Texas A&M (formerly Texas A&M University-Commerce}. He is a former first responder and U.S. Army Veteran. He has advanced training in the areas of grief and loss, trauma, couples counseling, and critical incident response teams.

Dr. Patras excels in coaching first-time entrepreneurs who are launching their businesses and need the guidance of someone who has created three successful businesses from the ground up. In the counseling space, Nick provides both individual counseling and retreat-style intensives for couples’ work, clients dealing with unresolved trauma, and those with grief from any type of loss.

In writing his first non-fiction book, Nick shares personal narratives taken from four decades of his professional life that guide readers through grief, showing how even in the darkest times, life offers invaluable lessons.
